What is Gumasta License and why is it important?

  • The Gumasta License is a legal obligation originally governed by the MCGM under the Maharashtra Shop and Establishment Act.
  • It gives you certification to do business through your shop or place of business.
  • Gumasta License is mandatory for everyone; either you are a small business or service provider.
  • To start any kind of shop or business in Mumbai, you need at least one legal entity proof in your shop or firm or business name that gives you the right to do any type of business in the state of Mumbai or Maharashtra.
  • The business bank account is restructured to receive the amount of any kind of business transaction. All banks reorganized at least one legal entity proof to open a business bank account. Banks mostly require Gumasta License.
  • Gumasta License has registered your business with the concerned department, so your business name is always registered in your records so that you can avail all government benefits for your new business. Gumasta License also known as Shop Act Licence in Maharashtra.

What documents are required for Gumasta License Registration or Renewal?

Documentation process for Gumasta License is very easy comparatively other licenses and registration.

Required documents for Gumasta License are as follows:

  • Application Form (Form-F or Form-A)
  • Passport-Size Photo of Applicant
  • Photo of the Signature of Applicant
  • Aadhaar Card of the Applicant
  • Business Address Proof
    • Electricity Bill/Property Tax Receipt
    • Rent-Agreement (If Rental)
  • Photo of the Shop/Establishment with Name Board (Marathi)
  • Based on the constitution of the business, following additional documents are required:
    • Partnership Firm: Deed of Partnership
    • Private Limited Company/OPC: Certificate of Incorporation
    • Public Limited Company: Certificate of Incorporation & MoA
    • Limited Liability Partnership: LLP Agreement
    • Trust: Trust Deed
    • Co-Operative Society: Copy of Bye-Laws
  • Business Specific Licenses (If applicable): Such as FSSAI, RTO Transport Permit, the Food and Drugs Administration License, etc.
  • Self-Declaration (Duly-Signed)
